This is a rough and tumble game that we do, If you really want to get kicked around and criticized one minute and praised and adored the next then lutherie is the game for you. Lately I've been kicked pretty hard with my injury and a bunch of other stuff. But perhaps the pendulum has swung....Today I had a music store contact me just right out of the blue and ask if I had a couple of guitars they could hang. That was definitely the cherry on my day, except for one little detail......I am about sold out. I have one recent guitar here for sale, and I figure I should always have one here if there is one available. The one I am just now finishing is already promised to another shop that has been selling them. Not the worst position to be in by a long-shot. Just needed to share that with some people that would really understand.

It's better to be sold out than to carry inventory, that's for sure...

Brian, I can certainly relate right now. I have been dealing with my own challenges for just over a year. An injury can mess up your world big time when you rely solely on your skills and your health. I hope things are turning around for you and you are back up to full speed soon. Hang tough.

Took me almost 2 years to rebuild my business after the motorcycle accident. It sucks, I know.

Congrats on the call from the guitar store! I hope the pendulum continues its favorable swing. I have a small company (unrelated to lutherie) and while it always hurts to turn a client away, sometimes being unavailable can work to your advantage. If managed correctly, it can boost your reputation and lead to larger orders down the line. If you're so busy that I have to wait, you must be really good, right?

I've been playing since the day after the accident. Hurt like all get out and I didn't play long at first but I've been getting back out and doing an open mike here and there the last month or so. Just now getting to the point where I can do some real work. Did my first fret job since the accident just last week. That was rough but I got it done and done to my standards so I'm pretty happy. Thanks for asking.

bliss Yay for the Brian,

Sounds to me like you getting a message to consider changing your production methods,as in limited production runs and maybe even an assistant. Anyways heal faster and good luck in meeting the demands.
